Helping the Navy Marine Mammal Program Protect Our Nation
The National Marine Mammal Foundation supports the Navy by providing expertise in marine mammal medicine, training, and research. Through contracts with the Navy, our unparalleled team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, trainers, and researchers assist the Navy in providing their animals with exceptional care of their animals.
For half a century, the Navy has housed and cared for marine mammals. During this time, entire life histories have been collected on these unique and special animals. Trainers and veterinarians have gained the trust of the Navy's bottlenose dolphins and California sea lions.
As a result of human-animal collaboration, these animals swim freely in open ocean water, recover objects lost at sea, safely and comfortably travel globally, and demonstrate voluntary medical behaviors.
