An important component of the Foundation's mission is to apply our discoveries about marine mammals to inspire creative thinking and a commitment to ocean conservation in future generations. To achieve this mission, the Foundation supports world-class marine mammal training internships and veterinary externships for the Navy.
Exciting discoveries are continually uncovered by the Foundation. To help share these discoveries with the public, we are expanding our education and outreach program.

Internship Program
The Animal Care and Training Internship is designed to give undergraduate students a dynamic educational experience in the marine
mammal field while offering valuable career experience. Students are responsible for a number of support tasks with dolphins and
sea lions throughout the course of the internship including diet preparation, sanitation, and equipment and facility maintenance.
Interns also have the opportunity to assist the marine mammal training staff in husbandry, research and open ocean training
sessions.
The internship is offered during the spring, summer and fall semesters on a competitive basis to college sophomores through recent
graduates in the Marine Science, Biology, Zoology, Psychology, and Veterinary fields. The internship is a 40 hours per week, 16-
week commitment. For more information, please send an email to our Director of Education and Outreach (education@nmmpfoundation.org).

Classroom Visits
As part of our commitment to education, Foundation employees participate in outreach efforts at local San Diego schools and public events. By educating kids
about our exiting discoveries about marine mammals, we hope to inspire future generations for
years to come. Science education is incredibly important, and we hope to do our part by exposing students to the unique and
rewarding work that we do with the animals. Pictured above are Foundation team members, Randall Dear (left) and Erika Putman (right)

and Outreach.
Web-based Education Center
In our continuing efforts to make marine science more accessible to the public, we are developing a web-based education
center. Here, visitors will access the latest discoveries and advances in marine mammal medicine, science, and training. Our web-based education center will
include a video lecture series, tools for teachers, and fun activities for children. Donate today to help us build our web-based education center!

Community Lecture Series

Foundation scientists provide exciting and educational lectures to the public through our Community Lecture Series Program.
Through our community lecture series, we aim to broaden the public's knowledge about marine mammal science, veterinary care, and conservation.
Further, we hope to inspire the public to get involved in ocean conservation. If your group is interested in having someone from our team come out to give a presentation, please
contact our Director of Education and Outreach.
